The Val di Noto - five essential things to do
Beaches and the sea: The sea of the South-east is defined by its seabed which is both sandy and rocky. This feature makes the water shallow and clear, so it is ideal for families. The existence of various natural coastal areas such as Marina di Modica, the Pisciotto, Sampieri and Maganuco make an excursion which will certainly end, during the summer, with a refreshing dive in the warmth of sunny Sicily, even more interesting.
Visit the main cities: The most important centers of the Baroque in South-east Sicily, which are the main Baroque cities of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract visitors thanks to the richness of their cultural attractions. A visit to these will comprise a thousand visits, featuring art, museums, tourist sites, traditional markets and tastes, beaches and fascinating stories unique to a magical land, Sicily.
Archaeological itineraries: A whole history to be discovered: archaeology, the remains of the temples of Magna Graecia, ancient theatres, and museums which today house the indelible remains of a past which is glorious to visit. The Val di Noto is a testament to numerous examples throughout the area of burial sites, tombs and caves, Neolithic habitations and, moving forward in time, the Siculi era. From Pantalica to Palazzolo, the history of mankind speaks at every step.
A journey through PAT tastes: The characteristic landscape of Iblea accompanies us as we discover the traditional and authentic flavors of the South-east of Sicily through tasting itineraries which enable us to sample products and recipes which have earned PAT (Traditional agri-food products – Traditional Food Farming Products) status. This is a journey winding from Noto to Caltagirone, passing through Modica, Ragusa and Scicli on the way to Palazzolo Acreide and Buccheri.
Churches and other places of worship: The most important places of worship in the Val di Noto area display Baroque art at its finest. They include St George's Cathedral in Modica, the Church of St John the Baptist in Ragusa, St Nicholas's Cathedral in Noto and many other examples.
